Australia – Perth, Vineyards and Tasmania : 38 days
Day 1
Depart London on your flight to Perth via Dubai.
Day 2
On arrival in Perth you will be met and transferred to the Duxton Hotel for five nights. Perth is a vibrant city with a lively music and arts scene. Further south there are some very successful vineyards producing award winning wines.
Days 3- 6
At leisure.
Day 7
Depart Perth on Great Southern Railways Indian Pacific train to Adelaide. Travel in Gold Kangaroo Class, and spend overnight on the train. All meals are included. The enjoyment of fine food and wine whilst travelling in a world famous train with panoramic views across a vast, beautiful continent is an unrivalled experience.
Day 8
Day on board the train.
Day 9
Early morning arrival in Adelaide. Collect your rental car. Rest of the day at leisure, and overnight Stamford Plaza Hotel.
Day 10
Drive to the Barossa Valley and Marananga. With more than 100 wineries, the Barossa is truly one of the world’s great wine producing areas. Two nights at Peppers Hermitage.
Day 11
At leisure in the Barossa Valley.
Day 12
Drive to Padthaway. Overnight Padthaway Homestead, a gracious and elegant two-story Victorian mansion set on 50 hectares north of Naracoorte. The estate is planted with Pinot Noir and Chardonnay vines.
Day 13
Drive to Cavendish. Overnight Glenisla Homestead, one of Victoria’s original Bed and Breakfast resorts situated adjacent to the Grampians National Park and the Black Range State Park.
Day 14
Drive to Port Fairy. This small fishing village is one of the oldest and most charming on the Great Ocean Road. Overnight Oscars Waterfront Boutique Hotel.
Day 15
Drive to Apollo Bay. Overnight Claerwen Retreat. Claerwen Retreat is located “high above the world” overlooking the Great Ocean Road. It is the highest point in the area, an old aboriginal sacred site, with stunning ocean views. The Otway rainforests and surf beaches like Moonlight Head and Johanna are close by and The Twelve Apostles are a year-round attraction.
Day 16 – 25
Drive to Melbourne. Own arrangements with family for the next ten days.
Day 26
Return your car at Melbourne Airport. Fly from Melbourne to Hobart and pick up your rental car. Drive to The Lodge on Elizabeth for overnight. Previously the home of many Tasmanian notables including one premier, The Lodge on Elizabeth was built by convicts in 1829 and is listed by the National Trust.
Days 27
Drive to Strahan, a charming fishing village on Macquarie Harbour and gateway to the Franklin and Gordon Rivers. Overnight Franklin Manor. The magnificent scenery of the west coast can be enjoyed in many ways: from the air; from a cruise boat on the river; a walking track; or by vehicle. Visitors can choose from a wide range of activities including fishing trips, seaplane tours, a river cruise, jet boat rides, four wheel drive adventures, horse riding, and bushwalking.
Days 28 and 29
Drive to the Cradle Mountain Lodge, a wilderness retreat situated in the spectacular Cradle Mountain and Lake St Clair National Park, for two nights. Activities include bushwalking, canoeing, fly fishing, and horse riding.
Day 30
Drive to Launceston. Overnight Hatherley House, boutique accommodation in the heart of Tasmania’s fine wine and food region.
Day 31
Return your car to Launceston Airport. Fly from Launceston to Melbourne, and connect with your flight to Sydney. On arrival meet your family.
Days 32 – 37
Own arrangements.
Day 38
Make your way to the airport and check in for your flight to London.
