Thailand and Cambodia : 14 days

Day 1

On arrival in Bangkok after your overnight flight from the UK you will be met and transferred to your hotel for the next three nights, the Davis Hotel.

Day 2

In the morning enjoy a city and temples tour of Bangkok. Visit Wat Trimit (Golden Buddha Temple), Wat Po (Reclining Buddha Temple), and Wat Ben (Marble Temple). In the afternoon visit the Grand Palace.

Day 3

In the morning visit Damnernsaduak floating market. Afternoon at leisure. In the evening have dinner in a restaurant with Thai Cultural Show.

Day 4

Drive to Ayutthaya for sightseeing. Continue to Sukothai. Overnight Pailyn Hotel.

Day 5

Drive to Chiang Mai. Overnight Tamarind Village.

Day 6

In the morning visit a working elephant camp. En route see the Mae Sa Waterfall and an orchid farm. In the afternoon visit Home Cottage Industries in the Sankampaeng district for both shopping and sightseeing. There are a range of shops such as Thai silk and cotton looms, Bo-Sang village where the paper and umbrellas are made, the Celadon kilns, with exquisite traditional high fired stoneware, lacquer ware, teakwood carving, jewellery, and silverware factories. You will see the way craftsmen produce their crafts by hand from start to finish. Overnight Tamarind Village.

Day 7

Depart Chiang Mai on a two day adventure trek! Leave Chiang Mai and stop at the Maemalai market where vendors sell fruits, flowers and food. Continue to the Hot Spring for lunch (picnic). After lunch there is a three hour trek through tropical evergreen forests to a Karen Hilltribe village. Dinner and overnight stay in a Karen home.

Day 8

After breakfast trek to an elephant camp and ride for 90 minutes to a Lahu Hilltribe village where you will have lunch. After lunch enjoy a three hour raft trip down the Mae Taeng River to a Shan village from where a pick up truck will take you back to Chiang Mai. Overnight Tamarind Village.

Day 9

Full day Golden Triangle. Leave for Chiang Rai by road, crossing mountains and valleys. First stop is Wiang Pa Pao, one of areas famous for hot springs. On the way, another stop will be made to visit Mae Chan where you will find Yao and Akha hill tribe villages. Continue to Mae Sai the furthest northern trading border town between Thailand and Myanmar. After lunch at a local restaurant the tour will take you to the Golden Triangle area where the borders of Thailand, Myanmar and Laos meet. Later visit Chiang Saen (A.D. 1260), and the ancient city of Chiang Rai. Return to Chiang Mai across the same mountainous route.

Day 10

Transfer to the airport for your flight to Phnom Penh via Bangkok. On arrival transfer to the Juliana Hotel.

Day 11

Cambodia’s capital sits at the confluence of the Mekong, Bassac and Tonle Sap rivers. Considered the loveliest of the French-built cities of Indochina, it was founded as a small monastery in 1372 by a rich Khmer woman called Penh after she found four Buddha statues in a tree trunk on the banks of the Mekong. She set up the monastery or ‘phnom’ in Cambodian, on a nearby hill. Sightseeing includes Wat Phnom, the Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, the National Museum and the Central Market.

Day 12

Transfer by boat from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap. In the afternoon visit Angkor Wat. This temple was dedicated to the Hindu god Vishnu by King Suryavarman II, who reigned between 1131 and 1150. It was constructed over a period of 30 years and is world famous for its beauty and splendour. Angkor Wat features the longest continuous bas-relief in the world, which runs along the outer gallery walls and narrates stories from Hindu mythology. In 1992 UNESCO declared the monument and the whole city of Angkor a World Heritage Site. Two nights Princess Angkor Hotel.

Day 13

Visit Angkor Thom, a fortified Royal City built by King Jayavarman VII, who ruled from 1181 to 1201. The city has five monumental gates and is encircled by a moat 100 m wide. In the centre of the walled city are the city’s most important monuments including Bayon, Baphuon, the Terrace of Elephants, the Terrace of the Leper King and Phimeanakas.

Day 14

In the morning enjoy another visit to Angkor Wat. In the afternoon transfer to the airport for your flight from Siem Reap to Bangkok. Transfer to the international terminal for your onwards overnight flight to the UK.
