USA -California and the Grand Canyon : 23 days

Day 1

Depart London on your flight to San Francisco. On arrival you will be met and transferred to the Fairmont Hotel for four nights.

San Francisco is one of the most dramatic settings for a city anywhere in the world. The centre is compact and much of it can be explored on foot.

Days 2 – 4

At leisure to enjoy the many attractions of San Francisco including the Golden Gate Bridge, Golden Gate Park, Chinatown, Fisherman’s Wharf, Ghirardelli Square and Alcatraz. A visit is not complete without riding the cable cars!

Day 5

Collect you rental car and drive to Yosemite (210 miles, approx 4-5 hours drive) for two nights at the Cedar Lodge.

Day 6

At leisure in Yosemite.

Day 7

Drive to Monterey. Attractions in this area include Monterey Aquarium, Cannery Row, 17 Mile Drive and the town of Carmel where Clint Eastwood was once Mayor. Overnight Travelodge.

Day 8

Enjoy the fantastic scenery as you travel south along Highway 1 to San Simeon. Overnight Best Western Cavalier.

Day 9

Continue south via Santa Barbara to Santa Monica for four nights at the Loews Santa Monica Hotel.

Days 10 – 12

At leisure.

Day 13

Return your rental car at Los Angeles Airport and check in for your flight to Las Vegas. On arrival transfer to the Luxor Hotel for two nights.

Day 14

At leisure in Las Vegas.

Day 15

Pick up your rental car and drive to the Grand Canyon (South Rim) – 275 miles. Three nights at the Best Western Squire Inn.

The Grand Canyon is unmatched throughout the world for the vistas it offers to visitors on the rim. It is not the deepest canyon in the world, but Grand Canyon is known for its overwhelming size and its intricate and colourful landscape.

Days 16 – 17

At leisure.

Day 18

Drive to Monument Valley. Overnight at Goulding’s Lodge.

Monument Valley was created as material eroded from the ancestral Rocky Mountains, and was deposited and cemented into sandstone. Visiting the valley is a thrilling experience. As you crest a hill or round a curve, a unique world unfolds before you.

Day 19

Drive to Moab. Two nights at a local Bed and Breakfast.

Day 20

At leisure.

Day 21

Drive to Bryce. Overnight Best Western Ruby’s Inn. Millions of years of wind, water and geologic mayhem have shaped and etched the pink cliffs of Bryce Canyon National Park. Your first view of Bryce Canyon is dramatic, as rows of pine trees veil the colour and grandeur of the canyon until you reach the rim.

Day 22

Drive to Zion National Park. Overnight Zion Lodge.

Designated in 1919, Zion National Park is Utah’s oldest national park and features soaring towers and monoliths. Zion is also known for its incredible slot canyons, including “The Narrows,” which attract hikers from around the world.

Day 23

Drive to Las Vegas. Return your rental car at Las Vegas Airport and check for your return flight to the UK.
